MTB Melbourne ReWilded is a Not for Profit community-driven initiative that advocates for transforming underutilized and degraded urban spaces into thriving native ecosystems with sustainable mountain bike and cycling trails.
The popularity of Mountain Biking is growing fast and has surged upwards of 30% in the last 5 years. Many young riders and members of the community have difficulty accessing MTB trails due to time and transport constraints while the relentless machine of urban development is forcing wildlife and biodiversity farther out and disrupting habitat links and nature corridors. Urban to Peri-Urban Wildlife and Biodivercity is under threat and could soon be a thing of the past if action is not taken!
The building of ReWilded Urban Mountain Bike Parks and cycling trails is the solution, and be a place for the community and nature to thrive.
Our mission is to:
Transform disused urban land into wildlife habitat - through community-built Mountain Bike trails and bushland restoration.
-
Mountain Bike (MTB) and Cycling Trails: Promote green exercise and outdoor recreation by creating well-designed, safe fun and challenging community-built MTB trails suitable to a wide range of skill levels.
-
Engage the community: Collaborate with schools and organisations that support disengaged youth to integrate Mountain Biking and environmental education into learning pathways. Foster inclusive participation for local groups and underrepresented communities, while building skills, confidence, and potential career paths in conservation, trail building, and outdoor recreation.
-
Partner with government bodies: Work collaboratively with councils and key stakeholders from project conception through to delivery—securing approvals, co-designing outcomes, and accessing resources to support integrated urban trail development and ecological restoration.

About me -the founder
Dave Jupp
With over 15 years of experience in coastal and bushland conservation, I currently work as a Natural Systems Officer at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne.
I’m deeply passionate about restoring native habitats and reversing the rapid loss of biodiversity caused by urban sprawl.
Mountain biking has been a powerful therapy in my life—a way to reconnect with nature, improve mental and physical health, and find clarity. The science backs it up: whether you call it green exercise, nature bathing, or meditation in motion, spending time in natural settings offers profound benefits for the body and mind.
The idea of rewilding disused urban land into thriving mountain bike parks took root during my time as a ranger in the pandemic. I witnessed young people—lacking accessible spaces to ride—resorting to digging tracks through fragile bushland.
It wasn’t vandalism. It was a cry for connection, movement, and nature.

This experience revealed a deeper need: to create sustainable, accessible trails that are close to home and built in harmony with the environment.Through my years of hands-on work restoring remnant bushland in Melbourne’s southeast, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the region’s unique ecological vegetation classes (EVCs), along with the soils, hydrology, and native flora that define them. Where others see empty paddocks, I see the ecosystems that once thrived there—and the wildlife that has been lost.I firmly believe that by harnessing community passion and forming positive partnerships with government agencies, we can restore these degraded spaces into thriving, biodiverse environments—places where people and nature can flourish together for generations to come.
